La Black Widow Records è un negozio specializzato in prog rock, rock psichedelico, hard rock, heavy metal, punk, dark, gothic, folk rock e una casa discografica fondata nel 1990 a Genova da Massimo Gasperini, personaggio conosciuto nell'ambiente discografico underground italiano.
Questa etichetta, è nota per aver rispolverato alcuni artisti e band misconosciute nell'ambiente hard rock, progressive rock, rock psichedelico e sperimentale degli anni '70 grazie alla passione e alla cultura che contraddistingue tutto lo staff.
La Black Widow Records, inoltre, distribuisce in esclusiva anche la Blood Rock Records, piccola label discografica sempre di Genova.

La produzione discografica

Sia le attuali e recenti produzioni sia le produzioni più antiche del catalogo dell'etichetta ligure, spesso hanno interessato il contesto rock progressivo di varie band italiane e di altri stati europei (Wicked Minds, Areknames, Abiogenesi, Presence, Universal Totem Orchestra, Il Bacio della Medusa, Il Tempio delle Clessidre..., il ritorno di una storica formazione prog italiana come la Nuova Idea con l'album "Castles, Wings, Stories and Dreams" e soprattutto i mitici Delirium, tornati in attività nel 2001, dei quali la Black Widow ha finora messo in commercio un album live intitolato "Vibrazioni Norrurne", l'ultimo lavoro di studio "Il nome del vento" e il bellissimo documento in CD/DVD "Il Viaggio Continua: la Storia 1970-2010" contenente anche tutti i video risalenti agli anni '70, nonché d'oltreoceano e oltremanica (Ars Nova, le ristampe di Morgan, Monument, Bram Stoker, Cirkus, High Tide, Black Widow).
Nel catalogo della Black Widow non compaiono soltanto gruppi appartenenti alla sfera del rock progressivo, ma anche formazioni che suonano space rock sulla scia dei maestri Hawkwind (Dr. Hasbeen), psichedelia più visionaria e acida (ST 37, Spirits Burning, Architectural Metaphor), il menestrello folk Gian Castello, l'autorevole figura artistica rappresentata da Paul Roland, e alcune formazioni provenienti dalla scena heavy & doom, come i maestri Pentagram, i Death Row e gli storici Italiani THE BLACK.
Tra i progetti imminenti, la pubblicazione in formato Doppio Lp con copertina apribile a poster (sulla falsariga dell'artwork dello storico Space Ritual degli Hawkwind)"The Barney Bubbles Memorial Benefit Concert", un concerto registrato a Londra nell'inverno del 2009 accreditato agli Hawklords, l'ultimo gruppo assemblato da Nik Turner assieme ad altri 7 ex componenti degli Hawkwind (Alan Davey, Ron Tree, Adrian Shaw, Steve Swindells, Harvey Bainbridge, Danny Thompson e Jerry Richards), e il tributo al Prog Italiano anni '70 dei piacentini Wicked Minds, impreziosito dalla partecipazione di alcuni ospiti speciali come Lino Vairetti degli Osanna, Aldo Tagliapietra delle Orme, Martin Grice dei Delirium, Antonio Bartoccetti (Jacula/Antonius Rex/Dietro Noi Deserto/Invisible Force), Stefano Lupo Galifi del Museo Rosenbach (oggi cantante de Il Tempio delle Clessidre) e Sophya Baccini (cantante dei napoletani Presence e autrice dell'album solista "Aradia").
Nell'autunno del 2011 l'etichetta genovese ha arricchito il proprio catalogo producendo la ristampa di uno dei classici dell'underground psych-prog inglese, l'omonimo e solitario album realizzato dal terzetto inglese degli Andromeda (nei quali figurava il compianto chitarrista John Du Cann), e riportando alla luce un album italiano registrato dai toscani Spettri nel 1972, mai pubblicato all'epoca, che mette in risalto le ottime capacità creative del quintetto nostrano mostrando un suono tipicamente progressivo con riferimenti ai Jumbo, al Balletto di Bronzo di Sirio 2222, al Biglietto per l'Inferno e ai de De Lind.
Nel 2011 la Black Widow ha prodotto importanti progetti discografici quali la ristampa del secondo lavoro da solista di Doris Norton, tastierista dei progetti Jacula e Antonius Rex, intitolato Raptus, un secondo capitolo firmato dai Sancta Sanctorum di Steve Sylvester, il mini album Black Sun, e l'ottimo doom-metal di The Ninth Hour, secondo lavoro griffato The Hounds of Hasselvander, la band formata dalla sezione ritmica dei Death Row e Pentagram (Joe hasselvander e Marty Swaney).
A Maggio 2012 risale l'uscita di un doppio lp+10"/ doppio cd dei Black Widow, intitolato See's the Light of the Day, che conterrà la prima versione del capolavoro sacrifice (quella cantata da Kay Garret e Kip Trevor), alcuni brani inediti e la registrazione del concerto al Teatro Lirico di Milano del 1972. Più o meno in contemporanea Black Widow ha pubblicato la ristampa del primo numero del catalogo Black Widow, ossia l'omonimo album dei piemontesi Crystal Phoenix, con la copertina originale del 1989 e con l'aggiunta di 4 bonus tracks, il quarto album dei francesi Northwinds, band ispirata dai Black Sabbath ma anche dal prog più tetro e teatrale degli Ange e dalla NWOBHM più sinistra di Angel Witch e Witchfinder General, il secondo disco dei piacentini Electric Swan, side project dei Wicked Minds, alle prese con un hard prog psichedelico totalmente immerso nei suoni anni '70, e il terzo capitolo discografico dei norvegesi Seid, gruppo di Trondheim che offre una affascinante miscela di sonorità prog, psichedeliche e spaziali sulla scia di maestri come Gong, Hawkwind e primi Pink Floyd.
