Chastity is a 1969 drama romance film, directed by Alessio de Paola and starring American singer-actress Cher, in her first solo film role.2 Written and produced by Cher's then husband, Sonny Bono, as a star vehicle for her, it flopped badly and deterred Cher from acting in films for more than a decade.
Cher acts out the title role in Chastity, that of a young woman who is bipolar and drifts from one relationship to another, meeting a young man and a lesbian along the way. Another of her problems is that she was abused as a child, a fact about her which leads audiences to wonder if she will ever find happiness with any one person.
Sonny and Cher's child Chaz Bono was conceived during the making of the film, and was named after it.1
Cher also recorded a soundtrack to the film, which was also a commercial failure.
