Invitation to events in June and July: bot, script, template, and Gadget makers wanted

I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon, 1-3 June. Registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, then please register by May 1st and mention it in the registration form.

This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, teaching, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.

We want to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!

I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC and our other events.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation Volunteer Development Coordinator 22:08, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

User script list deprecation

Wikipedia's list of user scripts is in bad shape, in that it is disorganized and contains many non-working, unmaintained, or thoroughly obsolete entries. Cleanup has been on the to-do list since 2007, but little progress has been made. Instead, the whole list is now set to be deprecated on 1 May 2012, to be replaced with a new list. This draft list has been up for about a month, and in that time I've been soliciting script users and authors to come add scripts they know to be working and relevant.

If you know of scripts that you would like to survive this deprecation (and are confirmed working and relevant), you're welcome to add them to the new list. Note that the old list will be retained and linked from the main list, so there is no real deadline. Thanks for your help. Equazcion (talk) 00:57, 22 Apr 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Miracle: Happy Summer from William Hung

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Miracle: Happy Summer from William Hung has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Album has no notability beyond being a William Hung album.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Deletion of Excel Therapy

Hi there! I noticed that you deleted the page Excel Therapy, and was wondering why you did not address the problem as I requested on the page. I was concerned about how I could fix the problems, and posted this box:

Wikipedia Eligibility
This page has been previously questioned on the basis of eligibility for Wikipedia. Should you have any concerns with the content of this page, please feel free to contact me about it, or if the problem is minimal you can edit it yourself. Should you see any content that looks like Advertising, please change it so that it fits Wikipedia guidelines. Thanks,

Carwile2 (talk) 00:02, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

I was wondering if you took this into notice, for I have worked very hard to perfect the page up to its current form, and am willing to change this page. Since you seem to be an expert, I was wondering if you could proofread my content, which I could send to you. Thanks! Carwile2 (talk) 00:20, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

I Understand. Thank you for your notice. I will find a third party source establishing its notability, and am sorry for my misunderstanding in my first response. I appreciate you clearing this up for me, and hope that you can keep me from making further mistakes! Carwile2 (talk) 00:55, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Death Cricket

Hi Sasquatch

You deleted my death cricket page. Note the page states that the Mt Vincent Death Cricket is a myth - you are correct in that the Mt Vincent Death Cricket is not real, but the myth itself is very much real.

You didn't find it on google given, to date, the successful management of this myth so as to protect the Australian Tourism Industry. I believe you deleted my page in error or maybe as part of the ongoing goal of all Australians to keep a lid on this myth (so as to make it so successful). I'd like to believe though that wikipedia should accurately report this myth due to it's ongoing goal of creating a complete worldwide knowledge source despite the consequences.

Articles for deletion/Dan Abelow

Please, don't delete as he deserves to be on Wikipedia. He has been cited in forbs and his inventions have been licensed more than 200 leading companies that include Apple, Google, Microsoft, Nokia, Verizon, Sony, Netflix much more.--Ceecily (talk) 23:00, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

What are you playing at re reverting the Birthplace article to a redirect. We're writing an article not leaving it as a stub, look at the Spanish wikipedia article, it's a museum on a national hero not a normal birthplace, don't do that again.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:37, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

What makes you think that the article won't be added to? It's listed in our WP:RBN. You should have seen the comments to Qwerty. That you reverted again is not in good faith but disruptive. If you bite at any editor who tries to put up a new article in this way you are definitely doing damage in the long term. This is a wiki, articles can grow dramatically even within an hour on here. In 3 days time you'll be kicking yourself for interfering with this.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:00, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

It is counterproductive to keep an article we're actively working on as a redirect.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:23, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Seriously, did you not see the editing history of the page?? I'd just finished speaking to Qwerty not to redirect and I restored it and you went and re reverted it. Surely you can see that it came across as edit warring and causing trouble. If you were completely unaware of this and it is coincidence then fair enough but it is rather a strange occurrence.. If you read the comments on Qwerty's tlak page who reverted before you and the fact that you re reverted it to a redirect after what had been said it's borderline vandalism, but I'm sure this was not intentional.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:47, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

OK, you weren't aware of the original redirect and discussion as I'd thought. But it doesn't change the fact that you interrupted the work of a very respectable editor Ipigott in doing this. Maybe you just assumed that it was a regular birth place of no notability. In future if you're going to redirect articles please consider looking for sources to see if it is necessary to do so. Now, enough, please.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:57, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Fireboy and Watergirl

You deleted Fireboy and Watergirl as non-notable web content. The article, as written, did not sufficiently assert any notability for this game. Would it change your opinion in any way if you knew that this game is widely carried on the popular kids' gaming websites such as,, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's kids' gaming page? Could you look at this article?

Hey Sasquatch! I was wondering if you have time, could you review the Spokane, Washington article and just briefly give me your general impressions of it, and if there are any glaring issues with it. Ive been editing it for a bit and Ive run out of ideas to improve it. I think the articles quality is equal to or better than many of the featured city articles on this site. Where would you place it on the quality scale and do you think it would be easy to promote it to FA?? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 05:35, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
