Wikipedia:Today's_featured_article/requests What should we have on the front page on April 1? --Dweller (talk) 16:32, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

List of nominations and awards by Bruno Mars

What else can I do to improve this page?

It's been nomianted for months. Thank You MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 23:55, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

You probably ought to list it at FLC, I can't see it there, so nobody else will find it other than people you approach directly. The Rambling Man (talk) 08:38, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
It's here,, it has been archived because of the bot closure. Should I nominate the list again? MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 13:12, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
I raised this with a delegate here. You might like to continue the discussion with him. Cheers, and good luck. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:19, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Thank You. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 14:29, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

John Johnson

Hi, thanks for reviewing my article. But can you please tell me what do you mean by "I asked for other input at GAN, but nothing was forthcoming" Thanks! RRD13 (talk) 06:56, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

I added a note to request additional reviews, especially since I'd modified so much of the text myself, but nobody volunteered. The Rambling Man (talk) 08:36, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

Premier League Golden Boot FLC

Hey TRM! Long time no hear. Could I trouble you to review my FLC nomination, which has been opened for approx. a month now? For a change, it's not a baseball list, and it being a football list instead should make it a bit more interesting for you. Cheers! —Bloom6132 (talk) 01:55, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do! The Rambling Man (talk) 19:39, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
Ping (almost a week has passed). But if you're busy, don't worry about it – I understand. —Bloom6132 (talk) 16:24, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your feedback TRM! I've addressed all your comments, with all but two fixed (I need further clarification on one, while I explained the problem in the other). Cheers! —Bloom6132 (talk) 19:43, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Addressed the rest of your comments. I found a way to make the ntsh work, but there's a slight drawback. —Bloom6132 (talk) 20:23, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Great! It works. —Bloom6132 (talk) 20:29, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

re: Sally Kellerman

I saw your edits for the Sally Kellerman article - looks wonderful. Thank you.

That being said, what are some other suggestions you may have for this page so I continue to work on it further?

Thank you :)

Topic banned?

Forgive my confusion; I thought that some time back (quite early in the year?) you'd been community banned from the Reference Desks? Nyttend (talk) 02:33, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

No, absolutely incorrect. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:01, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Yeah. I think that the other two users were topic banned, but not TRM. On other matters, persona non grata? → Call me Hahc21 14:54, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Yep, a few admins have made it clear they don't trust my judgement through their own judgement calls. But it is telling how quickly this particular admin "reverted" my edit without any actual reason to do so, despite having 200k+ edits. That's how things work around here these days. A bit like the admin who incorrectly blocked me because he couldn't tell the time. Sad, but true. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:10, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Well, depends. It's true that they (might?) believe you are persona non grata, though it isn't true that you are, otherwise you would be banned for the time being. Anyways, unless there is a big community discussion about your judgement, it doesn't matter what a couple of users say. That's how I split the waters and put what matters on one side, and what doesn't matter on the other ;) → Call me Hahc21 00:26, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

You are persona mucho grata to me and to lots of other editors. Not sure why you'd prefer their opinions to ours. Ours come with fluffy kittens, bunting (you can't beat a bit of bunting), meat pies, rose-tinted spectacles and, of course, dressing gowns. --Dweller (talk) 15:01, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

My thanks, of course. Has been interesting seeing how some experienced admins dispense their variation on "justice" and "fairness" and how quick they are to block/revert based on false premises.... I'll take your kittens any time D-man. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:04, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Antes de Las Seis GA Review

Hi Rambling Man! I just wanted to notify you that all issues you had pointed out in the GA review of Antes de las Seis have been addressed. Are there any more to address? Thanks, --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 16:05, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, yes, I'll get back to the review soon. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:57, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

re: Sally Kellerman

Hello, I think I made the necessary edits to Sally Kellerman's article. Could you please review it again and if it meets the standards, please notify me so I may nominate the article again. Thank you.

This page was somewhat lacking in bunting. You can't beat a bit of bunting, so Dweller presented some to you. Hurrah! Dweller (talk) 15:10, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

JSTOR Survey (and an update)

Hi! Just a quick update that while JSTOR and The Wikipedia Library discuss expanding the partnership, they've gone ahead and extended the pilot access again, until May 31st. Thanks, JSTOR!

It would be really helpful for growing the program if you would fill out this short survey about your usage and experience with JSTOR:

FAC review?

Can't remember if I pinged you or if you are too involved to do an FAC review, but I have Mucho Macho Man up, and hope to get it blessed for this round of the wikicup, any help would be appreciated, including FAC reviews from any of your trusty talk page stalkers. Page protection

Hi, I am the former HCCC14 (and, confirming what I have said before, the former HCF). As you can see, I've gone back to being an IP so that I can edit in peace if and when I choose to use the site. You say you will "deal with" a certain troll and you "will win". Okay, I wish you well and, if I should spot anything you haven't, I'll let you know. You may like to begin with this predictably childish taunt that has followed our difference of opinion yesterday. As my membership is cancelled, would you please revert that post and put protection on both the talk page and the sandbox, given that he even attacked the sandbox the other day too. Sorry we had words but it is probably inevitable when two people seek the same end by different means.

I'm going to convert this IP address now and start work on a Hampshire-related article that's been on my list for some time. I might get involved with tours again in due course (I see SGGH has already done one!). I shall miss the watchlist, HotCat and Twinkle but I shall enjoy the peace of mind knowing that to escape a problem all I have to do is switch the hub off and on. Good luck. (talk) 09:58, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

You probably already know this, but editing as an IP makes your location and identity much easier to determine than editing from a user account. And you don't need me to remove posts from your own account's talkpage, nor to protect it considering you've abandoned it, the IP edits can simply be made on your IP talk pages... The Rambling Man (talk) 10:05, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
H'mm. Yes, I'm very much aware of that. You've got me thinking. I'll take some time out to make a decision. Thanks. (talk) 11:43, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

What the hell?

Why are you reverting all my edits. If this is a wiki war, I don't want it. I reverted two of your edits, completely unrelated. This does not mean you get to revert all of my edits. Nedgreiner (talk) 18:04, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Your edits are misguided at best, please stop wandering around Wikipedia mindlessly reverting things. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:10, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Stop stalking me

Hey, look, I know some of these edits being reverted pisses you off, but please, stop stalking me. It makes me feel uncomfortable. Thank you, Nedgreiner (talk) 19:13, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

Stop messing things up and you can carry on regardless. Continue to foul up Wikipedia, I'll block you. Thank you. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:21, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

Pritzker Prize revert

Hi RR! What's with this? Just can't see why it has to precede the laureate list that is far more essential to the article. Besides, you didn't even give a reason for the revert which can easily be perceived as vandalism. Thanks and all the best, Horst-schlaemma (talk) 07:14, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

See WP:BRD. Now discuss on the talk page. There's no reason to move that section below the winners list. The article is about the prize as a whole, not just the winners. Thanks. Bye. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:17, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

And, in another news...

Shouldn't "In rowing, Oxford beat Cambridge in the 20XX Boat Race" be ITNR? BencherliteTalk 07:23, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Disappointed doesn't quite cut it. Hardly a contest once your boys half-destroyed our boat. Still, pity the number two who had a quick dip in the Thames, surely a good claim for whiplash? The Rambling Man (talk) 07:41, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
I think your cox should have gone to Specsavers - the water he was aiming for had a big boat in it already... Still, as the comics on Twitter said, you still lead us in such trivial matters as Russian spies and Nobel prizes! BencherliteTalk 09:04, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Seems like the blade clashes are happening more and more frequently these days. I guess once someone gets seriously injured, things will change. Our number two was lucky... The Rambling Man (talk) 09:11, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Indeed. Mind you, in my (rather out-of-date) coxing experience, you couldn't tell whether most number twos were actually adding anything to the boat's forward movement. BencherliteTalk 09:52, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
@Bencherlite: "The Dark Blues of Oxford shoot the Thames to garner victory over the Light Blues of Cambridge in the 160th edition of The Boat Race, but Cambridge remain the winningest team, 81 to 78." Don't forget that last bit...! The Rambling Man (talk) 06:22, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Question about ITN Candidates

I'm asking this question of you because you're pretty active on the "in the news/candidates" page. I want to know if I followed the accepted protocol. On 6 April, Costa Ricans elected Luis Guillermo Solis to be the next president. I put up a note today (7 April) in the 6 April section of "in the news/candidates." Should it have gone in the section for 6 April or 7 April? I'd just like to know for future reference. Thanks. Mvblair (talk) 21:57, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Main Page appearance: Ipswich Town F.C.

This is a note to let the main editors of Ipswich Town F.C. know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on May 1, 2014. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at present, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 1, 2014. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Alf Ramsey

Ipswich Town Football Club are an English professional football team based in Ipswich, Suffolk. As of the 2013–14 season, they play in the Football League Championship, having last appeared in the Premier League in 2001–02, making them the league's longest-serving club. The club was founded in 1878 but did not turn professional until 1936, joining the Football League in 1938. They play their home games at Portman Road in Ipswich. The only fully professional football club in Suffolk, they have a long-standing and fierce rivalry with Norwich City in Norfolk, with whom they have contested the East Anglian derby 138 times since 1902. Ipswich won the English league title in 1961–62, and have twice finished runners-up. They won the FA Cup in 1977–78, and the UEFA Cup in 1980–81. They have competed in the top two tiers of English football uninterrupted since 1957–58, currently the longest streak among Championship clubs. They have competed in all three European club competitions, and have never lost at home in European competition. Former managers include Alf Ramsey (statue at Portman Road pictured) and Bobby Robson, both of whom later managed the England national team. (Full article...)

You (and your talk-page stalkers) may also be interested to hear that there have been some changes at the TFA requests page recently. Nominators no longer need to calculate how many "points" an article has, the instructions have been simplified, and there's a new nomination system using templates based on those used for DYK suggestions. Please consider nominating another article, or commenting on an existing nomination, and leaving some feedback on your experience. Thank you. UcuchaBot (talk) 23:02, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Windows XP

TRM, I know we're not exactly the best of friends, but I wanted to thank you for supporting this nom. I agree with you 100% on the significance of the end of XP. As an IT professional, I would like to suggest that MS deserves some credit for supporting XP this long. Most Linux distros go out of support within a few years of general availability. I didn't want to clutter up the nom with what amounts to a personal observation.

cement redux

Could you revisit your quality-based oppose to the cement merger item? I have put a lot of work into the articles since then. Thanks. --ThaddeusB (talk) 14:43, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

I will do that, when I get home from work. The Rambling Man (talk) 14:47, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
Could you do me a favor and also assess the consensus and possibly post the item? I have tried unsuccessfully to get someone to look at it for the last 36-48 hours. I suppose I could post it myself but considering I nominated & wrote it, I really rather not post it too. --ThaddeusB (talk) 16:46, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

For all the work you do on "In the News" (posting items, writing articles, encouraging new users, etc.) I hereby award you this barnstar. Keep up the good work. ThaddeusB (talk)
I know we've clashed a few times, but overall I very much appreciate your efforts on ITN. There aren't many of us on ITN who actually write articles instead of just complaining about other people's work. --ThaddeusB (talk) 18:55, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
I agree and thanks. But life without disagreement would be very boring, and the odd opposing view is never a bad thing! Keep up your good work, and remember that your contributions are making Wikipedia (and the world) a more enriched place, unlike those who just hang around chatting and bitching about articles without ever really doing anything positive. For your information

You need to check out User:Bowsier and User:Xtrastress, revert all their edits and put them in the Daft SPI. In addition, J. Bentley (Sheffield cricketer), an entirely satisfactory article created by AA three months ago has been attacked no less than eleven times now. Semi-protection? (talk) 10:35, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Well you could do all of that bar the semi-protection, and you could apply for that at WP:RFP. I'm afraid I have other things to do right now. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:36, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Phoenix, Arizona

Good day. Early last month you were kind enough to offer suggestions on the article Phoenix, Arizona, at the behest of Gareth Griffith-Jones. All of the concerns (except for 2) which you and the individuals in the FAC process have been addressed. The two exceptions have to deal with the montage photo in the infobox (since I don't know how to create a montage myself - but when I do, I will change it to ensure it complies with the wikicommons free status), and the flag/logo issue, also in the infobox. I'd love to hear your opinion on the article now, but understand that you might not have the time. At least, one of the issues you highlighted was the prose quality of the Sports section, as I've re-written it, basing it on the examples of other FA City articles, like Boston, Houston and Cleveland. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Onel5969 (talk) 15:30, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
