A small translation required

Hi, I am reviewing some content on the wp:en April 1961 page (16 April), where a widely-distributed part of a Spanish language speech of Fidel Castro is quoted. At present, no English translation is provided. I think I have found the most accurate Spanish version, from the Granma website:

  • "Compañeros obreros y campesinos, esta es la Revolución socialista y democrática de los humildes, con los humildes y para los humildes. Y por esta Revolución de los humildes, por los humildes y para los humildes estamos dispuestos a dar la vida." http://www.granma.cubaweb.cu/secciones/6to-congreso-pcc/artic-04.html and http://www.ecured.cu/index.php/Socialismo
  • Two machine translations, below:
  • 1. "Fellow workers and peasants, this is the socialist revolution democratic and humble, the lowly and the humble. And this revolution of the humble, by the humble and for the poor, are willing to give life."(google)
  • 2. "Working companions and farmers, this is the socialist and democratic Revolution of the humble ones, with the humble ones and for the humble ones. And by this Revolution of the humble ones, the humble ones and to the humble ones we are arranged to give the life."(yahoo-babel & bing)
  • I know very little Spanish, and I only have a pocket Spanish-English dictionary, but my crude interpretation is as follows: "Fellow workers and peasants, this is the socialist and democratic revolution of the humble, with the humble, and for the humble. And with this humble revolution, we wish to give a humble life to the humble."(peterwd)
  • So far, I have been unable to locate a convincing English version (eg today borrowed Volker Skierka Castro biography). I would be most grateful if you can help find a reliable and uncontroversial translation that can be quoted in wp:en, or perhaps suggest a translation of your own. MTIA, PeterWD (talk) 16:13, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
Many thanks for your speedy response; I intend to use your translation in my planned changes. PeterWD (talk) 19:31, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
Update. I amended the article as planned, but now I have found an English version (but not the Spanish) in Fernandez, Jose Ramon. 2001. Playa Giron/Bay of Pigs: Washington's First Military Defeat in the Americas, p. 56: "Companero workers and peasants, this is the socialist and democratic revolution of the working people, with the working people, and for the working people. [Applause] And for this revolution of the working people, by the working people, and for the working people we are prepared to give our lives." The publisher's note says: "This book is being published by Pathfinder simultaneously in English and Spanish. The 1961 speeches and documents included here have either been out of print or not easily accessible in either language for several decades. In English some are appearing for the first time, and all are published in new and more accurate translations. The April 16 speech by Fidel Castro has been translated into English for the first time; the April 23 report to the Cuban people on the battle of Playa Giron has been newly translated, and the May 1 speech was previously published only in an unreliable English text prepared by the U.S. government's Federal Broadcast Information Service..."
Your comments will be welcome, to help decide whether to stick with the currently posted version, or amend it to suit. MTIA, PeterWD (talk) 14:38, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
Thanks very much for your advice, and your generous award tags; I hope you won't mind if I clean out the tags after a period - I'm not keen for my efforts to be proclaimed. In the amended page, I have continued with the truncated version of the speech, to suit the summarised nature of the day entries, but I intend to use a fuller version elsewhere, perhaps in Wikiquote. Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors
Writing Magnifying.PNG

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their November 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles (and specifically will be targeting the oldest three months), as we want to copy edit as many of these as possible. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters.

Formal mediation has been requested

The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "Trial of Conrad Murray". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 21 November 2011.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

MedCab case

Hi Historian. I'm one of the co-ordinators at the Mediation Cabal. We'd really like to thank you for jumping in to try to mediate a dispute, but we're a little concerned that you may not have the dispute resolution experience needed to handle the burden that a mediation entails. We were wondering if you would ask on the MedCab talk page for some other mediator to co-mediate the case with you, or perhaps consider withdrawing and returning the case status to "New", as we feel the case may be a little tricky for someone a bit new with mediation. If you choose to withdraw, we'd encourage you to get some experience working at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard or at the Third Opinion project then come back and take or co-mediate a MedCab case later because we always need some help. Perhaps you could have a read over our suggestions page and let us know what you'd like to do? Regards, Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 06:01, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Notice of intent to torture

A Barnstar!
The Dive Right In Award

I award this Dive Right In Award to you as a newcomer who has shown real enthusiasm in helping with administrative tasks at Wikipedia. It's sometimes hard to get your balance, and there's a lot to learn, but keep on trying. Many, many thanks, TransporterMan (TALK) 18:28, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Nonetheless, in light of your user page, please be on notice that as a speaker of the Texan dialect of American English I intend to torture you by using the word "y'all" as the second person plural pronoun each time we are editing on the same talk page, just as I do in everyday informal speech. (Just be thankful that I'm not from Arkansas and use "you-uns" instead of "y'all". That would really get your panties in a wad. Oh, sorry, let me translate that: get your knickers in a twist.) Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 18:28, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

And If I see such a thing such as "y'all", I will viciously correct you! --Thehistorian10 (talk) 17:41, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Trial of Conrad Murray

Do you still want to mediate your issues? You had two, and one of them is now moot because I replaced the infobox with a case infobox that doesn't include the names of the participants. So, the only thing left to "mediate" is the verdict. The verdict is now mentioned in two places in the article, in the lead and in the body. It has to be mentioned in the body because it's so obviously important, and the lead is a summary of the highlights of the body, and, clearly, the verdict is a highlight. So, the only thing left to discuss is whether it deserves its own section. As I said on the Talk page, there's no existing section to put it into (I didn't create the strange structure of the article). It doesn't belong in the prosectuion or defense sections, so where would you put it?--Bbb23 (talk) 00:52, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

The point is that I wouldn't have it in the article at all (other than in the infobox). If I had it my way, the section "verdict" would be struck out. --Thehistorian10 (talk) 17:39, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Based on that point of view, I won't agree to the mediation. Thanks for clarifying your position, though.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:39, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors November 2011 backlog elimination drive update
Writing Magnifying.PNG

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors November 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 46 people sign up for this drive so far, and 28 have copy edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't joined, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: We are making great progress in our goal of clearing out the oldest articles (April, May, and June 2010) from the queue. There are 122 articles left in those categories, which compares very favorably with the 281 that were present at the close of the September drive. We have reduced the 2010 backlog by 184 articles so far.

Coordinator elections: The term of our second tranche of coordinators will be running out at the end of the year, and we will be accepting nominations for new coordinators early in December. The election will likely run in the last two weeks of December. Please consider helping out by nominating yourself or someone else in the Guild as one of our coordinators. The commitment is for a six-month term. Thanks.

Request for mediation rejected

The request for formal mediation concerning Trial of Conrad Murray, to which you were listed as a party, has been declined. To read an explanation by the Mediation Committee for the rejection of this request, see the mediation request page, which will be deleted by an administrator after a reasonable time. Please direct questions relating to this request to the Chairman of the Committee, or to the mailing list. For more information on forms of dispute resolution, other than formal mediation, that are available, see Wikipedia:Dispute resolution.

As you've nominated it at GAN you'd better finish copyediting it.J3Mrs (talk) 17:31, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

It is not my article. I am merely an impartial reader who thinks that the article should be a good article. Unfortunately, I can't now reviewe it, as the rules state that the nominator cannot then review his own work --Thehistorian10 (talk) 20:02, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

GOCE November 2011 Backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors November 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We would like to thank all who participated in this drive. Here is the end-of-drive report.

Participation

There were 48 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 35 participated. Thank you to everyone who helped reduce the size of the backlog!

Progress report

During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 232 articles, or by about 6%. This is a two percent increase from our September drive, when we copy edited 4% of the backlog. We were successful in our primary goal of clearing the oldest three months—March, April, and May 2010—from the queue. Thanks to all who helped copy edit these difficult articles. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 5086 articles, or by about 61%. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

Coordinator election

The term of our second tranche of coordinators has run out, and we will be accepting nominations from December 5, 00:01 UTC to December 15, 23:59 UTC. If you or any other member of the Guild of Copy Editors wishes to be a coordinator, add your name to this page along with a statement describing why you believe you should be a coordinator for the Guild. You must be able to commit to a six month term. Thanks!

Once again, thank you for participating in the Guild's November 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Our next drive will be in January, and we hope to see you there!

Why do you think? It's blatant sockpuppetry

I invite you to read WP:Multiple Accounts and then get back to me on that. Alexandria (chew out) 18:19, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

You need to take a look at User:VoA, where it clearly says that it was a test account of User:VoiceOfAll, who also happens to be a MediaWiki developer (as well as an admin and CU, but that's beyond the point). The account was properly disclosed, and there is nothing close to any sign of abusive socking. Please stop. –MuZemike 18:23, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

WP:CSD nomination of Helena Romanes School and Sixth Form Centre declined

You nominated this as having no context. At the time you nominated it, it began "The Helena Romanes School and Sixth Form Centre (HRS) in Essex, England, is a mixed-sex comprehensive school for ages 11-18.[2] It is situated in the rural Essex countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres (140,000 m2) just to the north of Great Dunmow. A Sports and Leisure Centre, shared with the local community, is located on site. HRS is a specialist Humanities College with approximately 1500 pupils." That is a clear and specific context so it is hard to understand how you could possibly have believed this nomination was appropriate. Please be more careful in the future when nominating articles. Thanks. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:44, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Request for third opinion

Hi Thehistorian10, thanks for looking into my request for a third opinion about the page Emeka Jude Ugali. The reason for my request was that another user, who has been editing the page anonymously, seems to disagree with the points I've made on the Talk page and keeps deleting my maintenance templates.

I hope WP:3 was the right place to ask about this kind of thing, apologies if it wasn't. I'm relatively new to en.wiki :) Jean (t · c) 15:56, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

It was the correct place - I don't have a problem with where you went, but I was puzzled by the fact that you (appeared to be) talking to yourself...--Thehistorian10 (talk) 16:04, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

I am pretty much talking to myself, the anonymous users only interacted with me by deleting my templates. May I ask, what would one normally do in this case? Jean (t · c) 16:13, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

If you use "Twinkle" in your edits, then go to the page, and, in the Twinkle toolbar (it's normally a dropdown menu starting witht eh letters "TW" if you use the "Vector" skin), click the link named "RPP". This will get you a diologue box for requesting a page protection for the article or the talk page (or you could do both). This means that no one can edit that page. It needs to be approved by an admin though, and you need to provide good reason. --Thehistorian10 (talk) 16:38, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Thehistorian10, I notice you've had a request for adoption up for a little while. If you would still like to be adopted, can I suggest that you contact one of the editors on the list of adopters? As Wikipedia is a volunteer project and many adopters are busy, a more pro-active approach would mean that you are more likely to be noticed. If you've got any questions, feel free to leave me a message. WormTT · (talk) 14:06, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry to hear you had some difficulty finding an adopter - I'm going to see what I can do about that for future editors. For now though, I'd be glad to adopt you. WormTT · (talk) 08:55, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Mediation Cabal

Hi,
How are you feeling about the medcab case so far? I'm concerned that it has been going off track. On one hand, it's good that the parties involved have all sat down at the table and are discussing it civilly (you'd be surprised how many medcab cases don't even get that far). However, I think it's unhelpful to talk in terms of deadline dates for submissions, or shutting down discussion when you're not around, or escalation to arbcom at this stage. The mediation cabal is generally quite informal and easygoing; a "lightweight" process (a deliberate contrast to things like arbcom). Most experienced wikipedians are fairly good at discussing things and working towards consensus/compromise if given the right conditions; a good mediator could just be a squirt of WD40 in the mechanism. Of course, if somebody in a dispute is obstructive/uncooperative, we might have to reach for a crowbar, but I don't think that's the case yet with string theory. bobrayner (talk) 03:50, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

I merely set deadlines just to keep the thing on track! I don't think this needs to be drawn out, otherwise there will be a mountain of evidence to work our way through when it comes to deciding on anything. Without structure, this thing will not get resolved at all. --Thehistorian10 (talk) 09:12, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

I'd like you to have a looksee at the last comment I made (the most recent one today which has my name attached) in our medcab case. In a nutshell: the recommendations made by the parties seem to have been implemented, and therefore I am willing to mark the case as closed. Thank you for trying to keep Wikipedia free of vandalism. However, one or more edits you labeled as vandalism are not considered vandalism under Wikipedia guidelines. Wikipedia has a stricter definition of the word "vandalism" than common usage, and mislabeling edits as vandalism can discourage newer editors. Please read Wikipedia:NOTVAND for more information on what is and is not considered vandalism. Thank you. Of course I am referring to your recent removal of comments here on this very page. While you are perfectly free to remove them, it is not appropriate to ever label anyone's edits as vandalism when they were so obviously made in good faith. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:33, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

I was just about to say that same thing. Thehistorian10, be very careful with that word. WormTT · (talk) 19:36, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far.

Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (talk), Stfg (talk), and Dank (talk)

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months.

Progress report

During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (Talk), Stfg (Talk), and Dank (talk)

Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles.

Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg

Adoption

Hi! I see you are requesting adoption and so would like to offer to adopt you. Myself and my replacement/assistant, RexRowan have an adoption school, which can teach you all the basics of Wikipedia. We believe the adoption course is a great beginning to your Wikipedia life and User talk:RexRowan, who has completed the course himself, will happily tell you how useful the course was.

The adoption school contains a series of 10 lessons, each focusing on a different aspect and with a short test at the end of each. The lessons are then followed by a final exam.

Should you be interested in getting adopted, please read this Code of Honour, then return here and press the button below, filling in USERNAME with your username with out the User: prefix. This questionnaire gives me an insight into you and allows me to adjust the course should I need to, so please fill it in.

Also, please drop a line to say you are interested either below this message or on my talk page at User talk:Adam mugliston.

Thank you for the GA review

Thank you for reviewing Baccano! I kind of forgot it was nominated for GA. And your concerns and comments are very helpful. I'll address them as soon as I can. ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 13:14, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

I read through this review at Talk:Baccano!/GA1. I haven't read through the article in detail but it looks like it would pass (I'm not challenging the outcome). However, about what you said in the review, the article must pass all 6 of the criteria. If it fails one of the criteria, then it is not a GA. I hope you enjoyed reviewing the article and continue with another at WP:GAN or at WP:FAC or WP:PR. Thanks. maclean (talk) 02:19, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
The "five style guidelines" refers to those 5 listed in GA criteria 1a "style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation." The article must meet all 6 GA criteria to be a considered a GA. maclean (talk) 16:31, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Adoption

Hi, Thanks for filling out the entry quiz. I am currently on holiday, since I have a life too and so will review your application when I get back home, which will be on Saturday 25th August.  Adam Mugliston  Talk  16:38, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I'm afraid your application was not successful. Should you be interested still in getting adopted, you could request adoption from another adopter or reapply to me completely after 14 days. For the future, I suggest you change your attitude.  Adam Mugliston  Talk  08:49, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Because of your interest in dispute resolution,, I am inviting you to comment on the following RfC:

Talk:Monty Hall problem#Conditional or Simple solutions for the Monty Hall problem?

This dispute has been going on for over ten years and there have been over 1,300,000 words posted on the article talk page (by comparison, all of the Harry Potter books together total 1,084,170 words). Over the years the dispute has been through multiple noticeboards, mediators, and even the Arbitration Committee without resolving the conflict, so a lot of wisdom is needed here. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:57, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The October 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.

We have reduced our target group of articles—November and December 2011—by over 50%, and 34 of the the 56 requests made in September and October this year have already been fulfilled. However, the rate of tagging for copy edit has increased, and this month we are just keeping the size of the backlog stable. So, all you copy editors, please do come along and help us!
  • The September 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest was won by Baffle gab1978 for his copy edit of Expulsion of the Acadians. Runner up was Gareth Griffith-Jones for his edit of I Could Fall in Love. Congratulations to both.
  • The October 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is in the discussion and voting stage until midnight November 30 (UTC). You don't have to make a submission to vote!
  • November 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is in the submissions stage until midnight November 30 (UTC), when discussion and voting begin.
  • Seasonal oversight: We had a slight fall from grace in the title of our last newletter, which mentioned the season in the northern hemisphere and thus got it wrong for the southern. Fortunately an observant GOCE member was ready to spring into action to advise us. Thanks! In future we'll stay meteorologically neutral.

Dispute Resolution – Volunteer Survey Invite

Hello Thehistorian10. To follow up on the first survey in April, I am conducting a second survey to learn more about dispute resolution volunteers - their motivations for resolving disputes, the experiences they've had, and their ideas for the future. I would appreciate your thoughts. I hope that with the results of this survey, we will learn how to increase the amount of active, engaged volunteers, and further improve dispute resolution processes. The survey takes around five to ten minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist in analyzing the results of the survey. No personally identifiable information will be released.

Please click HERE to participate.
Many thanks in advance for your comments and thoughts.

You are receiving this invitation because you have either listed yourself as a volunteer at a dispute resolution forum, or are a member of a dispute resolution committee. For more information, please see the page that describes my fellowship work which can be found here. Szhang (WMF) (talk) 02:46, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

GOCE November drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up
Writing Magnifying.PNG

Participation: Thanks to all who participated! Out of 38 people who signed up this drive, 33 copy-edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. All the barnstars have now been distributed.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing November and December 2011 from the backlog. For the first time since the drives began, the backlog consists only of articles tagged in the current year. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2690 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 56 requests outstanding before November 2012 as well as eight of those made in November.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the October 2012 competition, and prizes have been issued. The November 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The December 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.

Coodinator election: The six-month term for our fourth tranche of Guild coordinators will expire at the end of December. Nominations are open for the fifth tranche of coordinators, who will serve from 1 January to 30 June 2013. For complete information, please have a look at the election page.

  • Voting is in progress for the November 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest. Everyone is welcome to vote, whether they have entered the contest or not.
  • From Sunday 16 December to Saturday 22 December, we are holding a Project Blitz, in which we will copy edit articles tagged with {{copyedit}} from January 2012. The blitz works much like our bimonthly drives, but a bit simpler. Everyone is welcome to take part, and barnstars will be awarded.
  • January 2013 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in January, February, and March 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2012. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in January, February, and March 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest.

DRN reopening

Historian, good to talk to you again. Reopening a closed request at DRN requires that the tags which were removed at the time of closing be restored, else the listing breaks the bot that maintains the page or, alternatively, the lack of the tags will cause the bot to archive the listing even though you intended to reopen it. (You may need to also renotify the parties, if it was closed for very long, just in case they saw the close and aren't watching the DRN page any more, though I don't think this one wasn't closed long enough to have to bother with that.) Also, leaving a stale dispute open for 12 days after it was opened is far, far longer than the standard ordinarily applied at DRN, which is about 3-5 days. I've restored the top tags for you, and it's up to you to decide how long you want to leave it open, but there's reason to be concerned that at least one editor is using the DRN listing as an excuse to maintain the status of the article without choosing to weigh in at DRN. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 17:57, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

If a filing is made and no one at all participates, the filing can be closed after 48 hours. However, an additional 24 hours can be given along with a request on the case filing itself. Another volunteer is likely to close this after no more than 72 hours.--Amadscientist (talk) 08:36, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

DRN Michael Gambon

That request ought to be closed if most everyone listed doesn't join in sometime in the next few days. If people have been listed who are very minor players or who haven't participated in the last couple of weeks, they sometimes can be disregarded if they don't join in. But if any major or frequent participants don't join, then it's usually not good for the dispute or for the encyclopedia to fragment the discussion between the article and DRN by allowing discussion to proceed at DRN without any real hope that any decisions reached at DRN will work since there are interested parties back at the article talk page who aren't participating at DRN. Also, you might want to read and consider Wikipedia talk:Dispute resolution noticeboard#Process reminder to all volunteers about opening statements. Istrian exodus

Thank you for your interest in this 3O request. I have replied to your post in the talk page of the article. Silvio1973 (talk) 15:36, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

It seems that since the dispute has been moved to the DRB, my counterparty is not willing to discuss anymore. I genuinely do not know how to continue. Your 3O has been ignored, the discussion on the DRB has not moved forward (strange, before the enter of the matter on the DRB the talk page of on the article Istrian exodus was very active). Also, I have hard time finding consensus because my counterparty seems only interested in demonstrating that I am wrong, rather than trying to demonstrating that he is right. In such context, I do not know how to proceed to get to consensus. Additionally, user Direktor does not stop writing that I am a liar and an extremist. This is perhaps not enough to start a RfC but it is definitely annoying and I should not have to take it. What to do? --Silvio1973 (talk) 17:01, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, In those few days when it was archived there was no further discussion going on. DRN is going to undergo some changes soon, so it'd really be great if our backlog is cleared before the start of August and we have as many people on board to help with the changes (they include a move to subpages and the creation of a rotating "co-ordinator" role to help manage things day-to-day. A minor change to DRN

Hi there, you're getting this message as you are involved in a case at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard which is currently open. Today DRN has undergone a big move resulting in individual cases on subpages as opposed to all the content on one page. While all participants are currently doing a fine job, we just don't have as many of them as we have had in the past. We have over 500 editors on our mailing list, but only 18 editors who have done a copy edit for the drive. If you're receiving this newsletter, it's because you have an interest in copy editing. Your involvement with DRN

Hi there, I noticed that you haven't been as active at DRN as you was before. DRN has been a bit backlogged lately and we could use some extra hands. We have updated our volunteer list to a new format, Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteers (your name is still there under the old format if you haven't updated it) and are looking into ways to make DRN more effective and more rewarding for volunteers (your input is appreciated!). If you don't have much time to volunteer at the moment, that's fine too, just move your name to the inactive list (you're free to add yourself back to active at any time). Hope to see you again soon :) Steven Zhang (talk) 13:35, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Steven;

Sorry about not helping out much at DRN. Technically, I think I can come back to helping a bit more, but I've got university starting next week, so I'm not sure - I should be able to know for definite by the middle of October.

I haven't been active because of the preparation for university, and all it entails. I was also embroiled in a horrible arbitration case (the Bradley Manning one), and that seems to have dwarfed all else Wiki-wise. That case is entering its last stages, with the decision due to be posted sometime around 3 October, so I should have more time on my plate, and, notwithstanding the above paragraph, I should be back soon.

I will also happily accept requests for the gallery (if not, images will be selected from archives elsewhere). Again I will also remind people that if they ever want to try doing a future month's issue, feel free to with your own style etc or even just stick to the current format. Don't hesitate to contact me for the resources of things to include in this newsletter. Otherwise, enjoy! Simply south...... cooking letters for just 7 years 01:10, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Istrian Exodus

There is a discussion going on the talk page of Istrian Exodus. You gave a 3O on this matter but it did not follow with any improvement. The discussion has been extremely torn out with accusations of any kind to myself. Now the page is under protection because things were not any more manageable. Your advice in this matter would be very useful.Silvio1973 (talk) 06:39, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors
Writing Magnifying.PNG

The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page!

The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there!
