The Organizations WikiProject is currently building a new framework for the Organizations category! We are planning to add all notable organizations by location, subject, and year from the "bottom-up", as well as move existing pages into the new scheme from the "top-down". Feel free to add content below, or share your thoughts on the Categorization Taskforce discussion page.

Welcome to the Organizations WikiProject on the English Wikipedia! We are a group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of local, regional and international organizations. If you would like to join us, please feel free to add your name to the list of project members!

Scope and goals

Goals
  • To provide guidelines and recommendations for articles that describe organizations.
  • To improve Wikipedia's coverage of organizations by creating, expanding, and maintaining such articles.
  • To develop and maintain a featured quality portal, with an intuitive system of navigation templates, as well as various infoboxes and an integrated assessment process for articles.
  • To serve as the central point of discussion for issues related to organizations in Wikipedia.
Scope
The project generally considers articles about any incorporated, registered, or otherwise legitimate organization to be within its scope. The term "organization" is applicable to any active or historical association, society, union, foundation, or corporation as well as any related and notable conferences or events. That said, companies are already covered by WikiProject Business, so the emphasis is more on other types of organization.

To do

Promote the project
  • Join this project! Add yourself to the list, and add the userbox to your page, to advertise the project to people who happen to pass by.
  • Invite people to the project – drop a note on the user talk page of editors working on Organizations topics who aren't project members.
  • Consider creating a Wikipedia Ad for the project (see {{Wikipedia ads}}).
  • Consider promoting the project via the Wikipedia Signpost WikiProject desk.
Improve the project
  • Update the project pages, archive clutter, and make use of the latest automation available
  • Consult the WikiProject Guide for ideas
  • Come up with new ones
Use the project
  • You can look at the project's popular pages list to identify particularly high-profile articles that could be improved.

Announcements and open tasks

  • Step 3 (basic editing) of the Portal, (instructions here)
  • Paste in main article structure
    • Paste in 2nd and (relevant) 3rd tier headings from example
  • Create WP:ORG redirect (example)
  • Fix and configure Navigation and announcement templates.
  • Implement system for bot tracking articles in order to assess them.

*change name of templates to reflect new shortcut (WPORGZ)

Structure
Modelled after WP:WARS, internally the project will develop several structural features to help in managing its extensive work:
  • Coordinators, who are responsible for maintaining the administrative aspects of the project.
  • Departments, which coordinate work on certain specialized tasks, such as the main portal, article assessment, peer review, or other project-wide collaboration.
  • Task forces, which are more informal groups for collaboration on specific areas of organizations, such as particular locations, regions, or types.

Bulletin board

The Bulletin Board is for announcement of issues, ongoing disputes or *FDs, problems, proposed new projects, etc.

Departments and task forces

Task force pages should be set up to handle issues with the organizations categories structure, infoboxes, notability standards, and other issues. For now, these are lists of tasks that need to be done that could eventually become a taskforce.
