Biography
Eric Calderone was born on March 11, 1985 in New York. He grew up in Bradenton and his family then moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1990, where he attended Cardinal Mooney High School and he enrolled in art programs offered through the Ringling Museum of Art. 1 Then he studied long-distance in Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Orchestration for Film TV and Video Game. He also went to the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida, leaving the school with a degree in Music for Classical Guitar. In October of 2011, he moved from Florida to Los Angeles in California. Calderone is currently employed as a guitar teacher and he has written an instruction book called Apply the Shred. There have been several debates about whether Calderone is ambidextrous or not, which he ended by stating that he is solely right handed.
Guitar Playing Techniques
Even from his field of study, it is obvious that Calderone’s life is heavily influenced by music. He started playing electric guitar in 2001 and throughout time he learned a lot of guitar playing techniques and tricks. In his music, he typically uses the shredding and tapping techniques of playing, along with vibrato and other guitar effects. "Shredding is a lead electric guitar playing style based on fast guitar solos" 2 and tapping is a "guitar playing technique, where a string is fretted and set into vibration as part of a single motion of being pushed onto the fretboard." 3 In the video Daft Punk Meets Metal, Calderone used a talk box to create his own unique version of the sound. Over 10 years of intense playing, Calderone has basically mastered all of the guitar techniques and he continues to perfect his playing.
Music and Influences
As mentioned above, Calderone is oriented on heavier types of music, which reflects on the list of his favourite bands, which are e.g. Symphony X, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest, and so on. On his personal website, 4 Calderone states that some of his many guitar player influences include Paul Gilbert, Jason Becker, Shawn Lane, Tom Englund, Michael Romeo, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Andy James. His work is also inspired by soundtracks from TV series and movies, such as The Lord of the Rings 5, Harry Potter 6, Batman7, X-Men8, or Transformers9, which he also made a cover of on his guitar.
Discography and Covers
Calderone has only done a single original album so far. The album is called Hollywood Shred and contains five songs. This means he mainly orients himself on doing the covers of various pop songs, movie theme songs, soundtracks from TV series and more. He started uploading covers to YouTube around 2009 and his channel currently has over 170,000 subscribers, although the number of his video views exceeds 22,000,000 in total. Calderone has done covers of songs from many popular and famous artists, including LMFAO, Skrillex, Rihanna or Lady Gaga. He either chooses which song to cover himself, or he picks one that gets frequently requested by community. He covers the songs by extracting some parts of the original song, adding drums via computer programme and then he records all the guitar solos himself. He usually adds an extra solo from a song done by a different artist somewhere in the middle of the song. His most popular covers include Skyrim Meets Metal, Skrillex Meets Metal or Harry Potter Meets Metal. Each of these videos has over 1,000,000 views. Along with this, he also does a thematically or seasonally oriented videos, e.g. for Christmas 10, Halloween 11 or Valentines day 12, with appropriately themed songs. Occasionally he does a short intro or dresses up accordingly to match the video theme. All of his covers are available for a free download on his website.13

Guitar Tabs
Calderone only published a few tabs of his covers on his website and then decided to create a tab book, which people can buy online. Due to copyright laws the book contains only the solos Calderone has written for the songs. The book also includes time references of the songs and it is released in volumes. Calderone has released one volume so far, containing four song tabs.
