Woodlawn Beach State Park
Woodlawn Beach State Park is located in Erie County, New York, U.S.. After a period of closure due to state budget constraints, since 2011 the park has been operated by the Town of Hamburg through a ten year partnership agreement with New York State.12 The "2010 Woodlawn Beach Sanitary Survey Report" completed by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation notes several potential bacteria sources which may affect the beach, including: sewage overflows, stormwater outfalls, urban runoff, contaminated stream drainage, and algae and leafy debris. Woodlawn Beach has been identified as the third most polluted swimming beach in New York State after failing 32% of water sample tests in 2011.3
The park offers a beach, hiking, a playground and a food concession.
The Woodlawn Beach State Park Nature Center is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday through Sunday during the Summer. Exhibits include a 24 ft high wall mural of the wetlands and dunes of the beach and an exhibit containing models of 20 different species of fish indigenous to Lake Erie. The center also provides free activities for children.
The park is open for day use all year, but swimming is only during summer months.
